Our Mission Statement

Tens of millions of American adults are functionally
illiterate, and this illiteracy affects all segments
of
the population: male, female, white and black, suburban and
urban. Many high school students and
even
graduates cannot read or write correct English. These people
are unable to do simple mathematical
operations. Too many high school graduates cannot score high
enough on SAT tests to enroll in a
college
or university and some of those who do enroll cannot continue
their education without remedial
courses.
Our mission, then is:
To take the non-reader to a level that he/she can read
and write English.
-
To advance the functionally illiterate to a ninth grade
level.
-
To prepare dropouts to pass the GED examination.
-
To teach newcomers good English as a Second
Language.
-
To equip the learner with life coping and job readiness
skills so he/she can be employable
upon completion of the programs.
Cottage Education Corporation has designed and
developed a curricula that
addresses the needs of learners ranging from the non-readers to
preparing for GED and college
entrance examinations.
Our Objectives
- To take the non-readers to the eighth
grade level of literacy so that they can
function in society.
- To prepare the learners to pass the GED
examination and obtain their High
School Equivalency Diploma.
- To equip the learners with life coping and
job readiness skills so they can be
employable upon completion of the program.
The programs are designed specifically to
accommodate diverse learners on an
open entry and open exit basis.
Each learner has an individual and personalized plan
to answer his/her need upon diagnostic
Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE).
