History of Cottage Education

Cottage Education Corporation (501-c.3) was founded in 1990 by a group of dedicated individuals who shared a common objective: To provide free education to all needy people. We started in the children's section of the Tavares Public Library. Our activities began in the Mount Dora Plaza, in 1991. In 1993, we expanded to Leesburg. We went on to teach inmates of Lake County Detention Center in Tavares. We opened the Webster Branch in the Webster E.C. Rowel Public Library, Sumter County. In early 1994, we opened the Umatilla Branch in the Miller's Shopping Center, with a thrift shop to help support the branch operation. Later that year we moved into the Lake Building, at 222 East Main Street, in Tavares. During 1995, with the cooperation of Lake County and other community organizations, we have been operating the Education Section of Americorp in Eustis FL. In the 1994 -1995 school year, we continued to work with at-risk students in Tavares High School. In May of 2000 we moved to our present location at 15034 Old US Highway 441 in Tavares.
