A Resolution from Lake County RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, MEHMET FATIN (FRED) BAKI has founded and is
President of Cottage Education Corp., a non-profit literacy
center in Mount Dora; and
WHEREAS, for the past two years, this center has
provided free tutoring services to more than five hundred
students, helping them learn to read, speak English, or prepare
for tests for high school equivalency diplomas; and
WHEREAS, the Mount Dora center is kept open twelve hours
a day, seven days a week, with evening classes also offered two
days a week in both Clermont and Mascotte; and
WHEREAS, these services are provided with a staff
consisting of one hundred and one State certified volunteers,
many of whom are retirees who are college educated and former
teachers, and
WHEREAS, Mehmet Fatin {Fred) Baki has recently been
recognized by President George Bush for his outstanding and
exemplary service to his community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County
Commissioners of Lake County, Florida, that:
Section 1. The Board of County Commissioners does hereby
wish to express appreciation to Mehmet Fatin (Fred) Baki for his
dedication and community spirit in helping to educate Lake
County's under-educated citizens.
Section 2. The Board of County Commissioners hereby
wishes to commend and congratulate Mehmet Fatin (Fred) Baki for
being recognized by President Bush as the 797th "Dally Point of
Light" for the Nation.
Section 3. A copy of this Resolution shall be spread
upon the minutes of this meeting and a copy delivered to Mehmet
Fatin (Fred) Baki.
Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect upon
adoption.
